Jumpstart 2022 Muxus, Rhystic Study

One of the main ways to get cards into the pool is with Jumpstart games! I really like the idea of making a Jumpstart product for each set. I enjoy Limited play, draft being my favorite way to play a tournament, and Jumpstart is the best way to get that feeling without having to find 8 people and spend the first hour picking cards. I opened these packs in my jumpstart games so far.

Gross Insects was a VERY GOOD combo. Specifically I got a good loop going on with Kraul Swarm and Durable Coilbug that brought both of them back from the graveyard over and over and kept the target on my Swarm rather than some of the green creatures that I was building up for a big swing in on my opponent. The “Gross” Pack gave me Plaguecrafter and Deathbringer Regent, which will be very strong if I get enough to build a black deck, and the Insects deck added Zask, Skittering Swarmlord, Relentless Pursuit, and Caustic Caterpillar, which all seem very interesting. If I get the support a Zask deck may be something I look into for the future.

Arcane Mischief / Go to School didn’t play very well. Both decks had some defense so I didn’t immediately lose, but neither really had a consistent enough punch to get through my opponents board. The best synergy I had was a few turns with Biblioplex Kraken and Overwhelmed Apprentice which did put my opponent on an interesting two pronged clock, but they were able to get through to win the game. This deck added a LOT to my pool… Impulse, Shore Up, Overwhelmed Apprentice, Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor, Aether Channeler, Cosmic Epiphany, Multiple Choice and a card I’m very excited to add; Rhystic Study. I love the new art on that card and it’s VERY strong in commander!

Holy / Goblins “YOU’VE BEEN GONE TOO LONG IN THE MIDNIGHT SEA!” This deck was AWESOME. The rare card I got from the goblin deck was Muxus, Goblin Grandee, and that card is NUTS! Every time it came into play I was able to find at least 1 goblin and that gave me enough gas to win me the game. Notable cards from this deck were Goblin Grenade, Rummaging Goblin, Muxus, Goblin Grandee, Emancipation Angel, Dawn of Hope and Valkyrie Harbinger.

Goblins vs Cats

Law / Insects, the new show coming to USA network, was an okay deck. It got in early with the low mana cost creatures that are in both decks, but if I didn’t get those cards out quickly it didn’t really have enough to turn the tide once the game got going. My opponent did get a REAL cool synergy off with Plaguespitter and Termination Facilitator, which allowed him to take out 2 of my creatures every turn. It’s really cool that some of these types of combos are available in these packs. Notable cards that were added are Magnanimous Magistrate, Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker, Isamaru, Hound of Konda, Midnight Guard, and a second copy of Zask, Skittering Swarmlord.

Overall I really like Jumpstart 2022, it gives me the ability to play limited games VERY fast, and I like finding the interesting synergies between the packs to exploit. I just hope I get to keep finding people to play with.

Next time will be a Pool update and my thoughts on crafting a deck out of the cards I have.
